It dwells into elements such as music, emotions, expressions, props, makeup, sensations etc. Young children are incredibly creative storytellers, they use their imagination to enter into realms of creative storytelling. Storytelling is undoubtedly the best activity for kids to enhance their vocal communication skills and confidence. WHEN AND HOW TO USE ENHANCEMENTS
Creativity has no limit, then why to limit it to just words. Encourage your children and students to include props, actions, characters, costumes, expressions and music to their story. Props and costumes act as a strong ode to storytelling, it conveys the message, setting and meaning more clearly while keeping the listeners engaged. If the story includes different characters, include other people or do a double role and dress up as characters in your story to make it more interesting. You can also use fonts, displays, backgrounds, music while entries and exits of characters. Use simple and creative objects to convey metaphorical meanings in the story.
PROP RULES FOR COMPETITION
The judges will consider Language, Presentation, Fluency, Props used, Coherence, Expression and Creativity.
- Language: Speak clearly and confidently. Make sure your pronunciation is correct and every word is enunciated properly. Put the right stress on important words to show meaning. Keep your speech coherent so that your ideas flow smoothly. Maintain a natural rhythm, avoid speaking too fast or too slow.
- Presentation: Use appropriate body language like gestures, posture, and movement to enhance your storytelling. Show facial expressions that match the emotions of your story. Express genuine emotion through your voice and actions to connect with your audience.
- Creativity: Bring your story to life by using props, costumes, or backgrounds that match the theme. These visual elements make the story more engaging and help the audience imagine the setting and characters more clearly.
SOUNDSCAPING:SIMPLE MUSIC INTEGRATION
Music can be an interesting and engaging element to include in storytelling. Simple and light music can be played in the background to increase engagement. Soundtracks or audiotracks can be used for specific characters to familiarise the listeners. Music can be played on the entry and exit of characters. Use fade-in and fade-out features, blend audios, use auto-tuner and other tools to also enhance the quality.
MOVEMENT AND GESTURES THAT AMPLIFY EMOTIONS
Use meaningful movements or actions that convey the emotions of the story, use loud or heavy movements in intense situations, light and minimal during narration. Use hand and arm gestures to display emotions of the character. Facial expressions are also an important part of storytelling. Display as many emotions and expressions required for the character,story and the plot. Wisely use the background, stage area and movements wherever necessary. Use a clean backdrop and decorate it according to the story. Use flashcards to convey information of scenes or story. Do not overdo or overact the emotions, keep it minimal and classy.
